How to Build Your Own Italian Charm Bracelet (Step by Step)
Share
One of the best things about an Italian charm bracelet is that you build it yourself — no jewellery-making skills and no tools required. Here's exactly how to put yours together, step by step.
Step 1: Choose how to start
You have two options, and neither is wrong:
- Start with a base bracelet. Pick a plain Italian charm bracelet base (ours come with 18 blank links) and fill it with charms over time.
- Start with charms only. Since charms click into each other, you can buy a handful of charms and connect them straight into a bracelet.
Step 2: Get your size right
Measure your wrist with a soft tape (or a strip of paper against a ruler), then use this as a guide:
- 14 cm wrist ≈ 16 charms
- 15 cm ≈ 17 charms
- 16 cm ≈ 18 charms
- 17 cm ≈ 19 charms
- 18 cm ≈ 20 charms
Because the links are modular, you can add or remove them anytime — so if you're unsure, size up slightly.
Step 3: Pick a theme
A bracelet feels most personal when there's a thread tying it together. Popular themes include:
- Your name or initials in letter charms
- Your hobbies — sports, music, travel, food
- Your milestones — a charm per birthday or trip
- A colour story, like an all-gold look

Step 4: Clip the charms together
This is the easy part. Each charm has a small elastic hook on the back. To connect two charms, gently pull them slightly apart and press them together until they click. To remove or reorder, do the same in reverse. Every charm uses the same 9mm link, so everything is compatible — no tools needed.
Step 5: Arrange and balance
Lay your charms out before finalising. A few tips:
- Place standout or pendant charms near the centre where they sit on top of your wrist.
- Spread colours evenly so one side isn't heavier than the other.
- Leave a link or two blank if you want room to grow.
Step 6: Restyle whenever you like
Your bracelet is never finished — that's the point. Swap charms for the seasons, add a new one to mark an occasion, or rebuild it completely for a fresh look.
